IT'S A BOY!

Yesterday we went to our elective ultrasound appointment in hopes of finding out the gender of this little one. I found myself becoming SO impatient, I just had to know! I had weighed the positives and negatives of waiting vs. finding out and the one thing that made me realize that I had to know was reading about that extra time a mother has to bond with the baby while in the womb. Now I get my own special time with my son that no one else gets to have. I'm so excited to sit and daydream about what he looks like, how sweet he will be, and what it will be like to kiss his chubby cheeks when he gets here!

I do have to mention, hearing her say 'It's a little boy!' was quite a surprise for me! I was about 98% sure I was growing a little girl. This is really only based on one theory...but still, it's all I had, and I figured a 'mother's intuition' is usually right. So much for that!

Based on the old wive's tales, we were pretty much even! No morning sickness = boy, terrible skin & exhaustion = girl. One online gender chart said boy, one said girl. Our family seemed to either have no opinion yet, or they split down the middle, girl vs. boy!

Because we found out so early, I've decide to go backwards and have some fun trying all the early gender determination methods to see if any of them are right. First on the list is the red cabbage test. You simply take a head of red cabbage, cut it up and let it simmer for about 10 minutes on the stove. You then strain out the cabbage pieces and keep the water. Then the fun part...you get to pee in a cup! Haha, add equal parts of cabbage water and urine. Theoretically, your urine pH changes based on whether you're pregnant with a boy or girl. The red cabbage has pigments in it that are sensitive to pH and turn a different color based on how acidic or basic a solution is. If the solution turns pink/red, then it should be a boy and it the solution turns purple, it should be a girl! So, we'll see how that turns out. I'll also try the 'ring' test, where you hang your ring on a chain over your belly while lying down and how the pendulum swings determines gender...I need to look into that one a bit more to find out what exactly to do.
