We've made it to 12 weeks!

Hooray! Although I don't consider us out of the woods yet, I'm happy to be nearing the second trimester (which technically doesn't begin until 13 weeks 3 days + a few hours based on a 40 week pregnancy!). Monday is the big NT scan that I've been anxiously awaiting....I am beyond interested and excited to see what the baby looks like now. I know he/she has taken the shape of a baby (albeit, a really small one) and no longer looks like the blob with a heartbeat we saw at 6 weeks. I can't wait! I'm trying not to be preoccupied by what they might find wrong and instead focus on the good chance that everything is going perfectly! *knock on wood*

I still don't have a baby bump yet, but my waistline is definitely.....thicker. I look like I've put on about 5 lbs by indulging in pizza and ice cream too much and avoiding the gym. In actuality, I'm still 2 pounds lighter than I was pre-pregnancy. Everything just gets moved around in there! Oh well. I am anxiously awaiting the real baby bump!

In baby news, the most dramatic development this week are reflexes. Fingers will soon begin to open and close, toes will curl, eye muscles will flinch, and the mouth will make sucking movements! If I were to prod at my belly, the baby will squirm in response. I sure wish I could feel like movement....all in due time.

Baby looks most definitely human at this point, eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his/her head, and the ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, baby is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a plum) and weighs half an ounce.

I can't wait to share our sonogram pictures we will get on Monday. Stay tuned!
