Houston, we have a Heartbeat!

Our checkup yesterday went great! If it hadn't been for all the waiting we had to do, we would have been out of there in 20 minutes. Weight? Check. Blood pressure? Check. Pee in a cup...check! Then we waited, and waited.....and waited. We were one of the last appointments of the day, so I'm sure this is not unusual. But I was just so anxious it was driving me crazy!

Dr. Smith finally joined us and asked if I had been having any problems. I told her I barely even know I'm pregnant! I expressed my fears that the lack of symptoms almost makes me feel like something is wrong....and she assured me I'm not alone, that her patients with little to no symptoms feel the same way. Moving on to the Doppler; she warned me first thing that it was still a bit early and not to panic if she didn't find the heartbeat right away. But about 30 seconds into it, there is was. The steady thump, thump, thump I had been waiting to hear! I heard before that it sounds like a galloping horse, but I still think it sounded like the 'whoosh whoosh woosh' of the ultrasound we had before. She glanced at her watch, counted for about 10 beats and said the baby is at about 150 bpm. She didn't seem too concerned with an exact measurement, but I trust that she knows what she's doing! She just said things look/sound great and she'll see me again in 4 weeks.

We did schedule our NT scan for the morning of May 16th. I won't have to see the doctor for that, I go straight to the ultrasound room and then get blood work. Crossing our fingers for good results, and then we'll be all set to tell everyone. We are gradually letting extended family and close friends in on the news since our positive appointment yesterday....so welcome to any of the new blog readers I might have. Thanks for following our journey to baby!

Tomorrow marks 11 weeks. Baby is now just over 1 1/2 inches and about the size of a lime. Hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under the gums, and some of the bones are beginning to harden. The skin is also so transparent that blood vessels show right through it. There is currently a 1:1 ratio between the head and the body....baby has one giant head right now! But I'm sure it's a very cute one! :)
