The Anatomy Scan is Finally Here!

I've been waiting for this day now my entire pregnancy. This is the day we get to A) Make sure this little guy is growing strong and healthy, and B) Finally see our baby in more of a 'human' form. Of course when we saw him nearly 5 weeks ago he was human shaped, but this time around - wow. What a difference! I'm happy to say that baby's report card is very good! And, that's right - he's definitely a he! She said, and I quote, "He's 500% boy!". He is actually measuring about 5 days ahead, so maybe this means he will make his entrance into the world before Thanksgiving (crosses fingers!).

We decided to purchase a Flip camcorder last night so we could capture this ultrasound on video. I was worried that the pictures just wouldn't do it justice, and I thought this was going to be our last ultrasound until his birthday. But, we found out today that I have a low lying placenta which basically means if the placenta doesn't move up a bit, I will have to deliver via cesarean because as of now it's too close to the cervix. So, another ultrasound is in order about 10 weeks from now to see if it's made any movement. Cross your fingers for me!! Anywho, please enjoy the video and feel free to turn down the sound although if you listen you will be able to hear the sonographer explain exactly what you're looking at. It's probably just a bit distracting hearing me 'oh' and 'ah' over him. Pay close attention towards the end, you can see Baby D moving his little mouth and jaw and swallowing. It's soo crazy! We were able to purchase a DVD from the hospital as well, so I will try to upload that a bit later. It's the exact same video, but just no people or noise. :)

I'm now consistently feeling our little one move around on a daily basis, especially last night and this morning. I can tell he's getting bigger and stronger by the day. Last night I nearly wanted it to stop because it was almost taking my breath away. It doesn't hurt, it's just....surprising. It really catches you off guard. And I love it! Rob thinks he felt a kick a couple nights ago, but I can tell it's not going to be long before he won't be guessing anymore! The problem is, every time he puts his hand on my belly, Baby D decides he's done goofing around. I presume he likes the warmth of Rob's hand and it just sort of automatically calms him. Who knows though? This is all in theory, of course!

We're now at 19 weeks! This baby is basically half-baked, because at 38 weeks I will be considered full term! At today's appointment he was weighing in at 11 ounces and measuring 6 inches long from head to butt so she imagines he's about 8 inches total. His brain is now designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. His arms and legs are finally in the right proportions to each other and the rest of his body. The hair on his head should also be sprouting (I'm imagining a full head of dark hair on this one!).

We've had a challenging week! Rob thought our A/C just wasn't cooling the way it should be, so we had someone out to check it on Monday while I was working from home. He put in a compressor kit and by that evening, it was only getting warmer in the house. We had them out again Tuesday, only to learn that we needed to replace the compressor and this 'fix' was likely to only last a year or two. It was recommended that we replace the A/C unit altogether; NOT what you want to hear when you have a baby on the way since this is definitely not a cheap fix. So, today I sat and worked from home while they replaced it, not so patiently waiting for our appointment this afternoon. What better time for a break than this holiday weekend. We're heading to Ft. Worth on Saturday morning for a quick overnight getaway. We love going there every so often because we have a couple of favorite restaurants and a great hotel to stay at to get away from it all.
Thanks to my sister-in-law, I also heard about a fireworks and symphony show in the Botanical Gardens that we've decided to go see on Saturday night. This is likely to be our last mini getaway before the kiddo arrives, which is so weird to think about! Happy Fourth of July weekend, everyone!
