6 Month Doc Visit

This morning we went to visit good ole' Dr. Sue for Ronan's 6 month appointment. I really look forward to well visits. I was so excited to see how much he has grown since his 4 month checkup. Although we have a scale at home, I don't measure his head and height at home. He had a great visit!

6 MONTH STATS:

Weight: 15lbs. 15 oz. (25th percentile)
Height: 27 inches (75th percentile)
Head Circumference: 17 inches (35th percentile)

The only thing concerning to me was that his head hadn't grown more....I want to make sure that brain of his is growing, of course! She quickly reassured me and said "he was born with a small head, and it's still small - so that's good". It's more important that it follows the curve with no real spikes up or down. So, he is in tip top shape. Still our tall and thin little man!

Poor baby had to have shots one more time...at his 9 month appointment he won't have to be stuck! Although, she did mention that he will probably get part of his flu shot at that appointment since it will be September. But, luckily that's just one shot. Poor Bubba had 3 today. He is not a happy camper. I couldn't stand to send him off to daycare today so grumpy, so I broke the rules and kept him here with me while I worked from home today. He's been like this most of the day, so luckily he wasn't too much of a distraction! Poor thing is not feeling too hot.

The doctor was happy and impressed with how well he's taken to solid foods, and has given us the go ahead (and encouragement) to start some proteins. It was surprising to me that she said we could even give him what WE eat at this point....with seasoning and all. I think I will start off making him protein that's very bland to get him going, but I'm excited to start making new baby culinary creations! We got a Beaba babycook and it was worth every penny. Making food is a snap, and with the "set it and forget it" functionality, it's perfect for my busy lifestyle. I broke it out last night and made the most perfect applesauce. We even added some cinnamon to it this afternoon for a snack and he loved it. I'm ready to get going on some good "feasts" for my boy. I just throw the food in ice trays after it's been pureed and pop them into ziploc freezer bags once they're frozen. Couldn't be easier. We do have some organic food pouches that are store bought for on the go (and for things I don't plan on making, like prunes...or rutabagas...lol) but other than that, we'll be a homemade food kind of family.

Poor baby has been a little constipated from the solid foods....I knew this could happen once we started solids and a friend said she heard breast fed babies have an even harder time adjusting to solids than formula fed babies and have more problems with constipation. So, we decided to go ahead and try prunes and water...we decided to kill two birds with one stone and gave him a sippy cup with water last night. He knew how to hold it right away! He's still working on figuring out how to drink from it, and water isn't his beverage of choice, either! The doctor said we can try a little milk of magnesia, which we just gave him....I fear a messy diaper in our near future!

Ronan decided he would do a little reading today while he watched mama work on the computer.

Through it all...constipation, shots, lots of green boogers, a cough; our little baby manages to smile. He's just the sweetest, cutest, and most wonderful thing in the world!
