Even though he had a good time at the pool, poor Ronan was under the weather and grouchy all last weekend. We had some friends over on Saturday and poor little man was not in the mood which was really bad timing, because with our busy schedules, we don't get to see our friends and their little one often. He fussed and cried the whole day. I was so disappointed he wasn't happier! At first I thought maybe it was a second tooth coming in, but when his tooth first came in we had no warning...it just didn't seem to phase him at all. I felt like something else was up. On Sunday he woke up with a terrible cough and was nice and snotty, but no fever, thank goodness. Poor kid had what his daycare teachers call a "snot mustache"; green, sticky and dried up all over his face. Bleh! We also noticed that what looked like a huge, swelled bug bite on his back that hadn't gone away since we saw it about a week prior. Then I really started to worry. We called our pediatrician first thing Monday morning and brought him in for his first ever "sick" visit. Diagnosis? A simple cold/cough. His lungs were clear and she said we do nothing, it will just take 7-10 days to get over. The bump, however, is a deep hemangioma; a benign vascular tumor composed of cells that normally line the blood vessels. Luckily, it's nothing too concerning for now, but have to keep an eye on it. Tumors like this take weeks or months to grow, as evidenced since we did not notice it until recently, but it can take much longer to shrink - possibly up to 10 years. And the thing is large and bulbous and looks like a big bruise on his back. My poor baby!
In happier news, we are continuing to introduce Ronan to more solid food and he has taken well to everything...I'm seeing precurser signs that he will eat us out of house and home in the future! We gave him bananas last weekend, and he loved them. This past Wednesday night, we tried avocados for the second time. The first time around he ate them, but seemed indifferent. This time? Ho-ly-cow. He went NUTS over that wacky green fruit. He was shaking when he saw the spoon, went grabbing for it, and would cry when I was taking too long to get him more. We had the best time watching him eat. It's amazing how much joy you can feel watching your child enjoy such a simple thing in life. It's wonderful, there's no other word for it.
