On to the best part; the sonogram! She brought us in quite a bit late, apparently there was a bit of an emergency and obviously that takes precedence over a regular appointment. Humans are seriously creatures of habit because I was all thrown out of whack when they lead us back to a different room, with a different machine and a different (not as friendly) sono tech as my usual girl. All this combined with my aching belly from the drink and I was one unhappy pregnant lady! I didn't even get to enjoy watching the sonogram because the screen was behind my head and I have to lay flat for the sono because flexing the abs makes it harder for her to get what she needs. Boo. Rob got some video, so that was good and I was able to see more when we got home...but still! I don't like change! :) The good news is, my placenta has moved up along with my growing uterus, so I am not in danger of placenta previa, which would mean an automatic c-section for me. Whew! Let's just hope the baby stays head down here in the next few weeks. He was head down at the beginning of the scan, which I knew he was because I've been feeling kicks and rolls in the ribs and below my chest for several days now. What I thought for the longest time was his head, was actually his little bum! Then he decided to turn transverse which he does at night when I'm lying in bed, so it makes sense he turned during the scan since I was lying down...so I feel good that I'm getting to know his movements and what he likes to do. Maybe this will help me get him into the optimal birthing position further down the road! Now for the scary part, the machine was indicating that he is measuring a whole 2 weeks ahead of schedule and already weighs 3 pounds (!!!!), which is in the 91st percentile. Now, this is not necessarily a good thing....this just means he weighs more than 91 percent of other babies at this gestational age. This kid could be huge when he comes out. The doctor said the only thing to prevent him being too big would be to slow down on weight gain, but since I'm gaining what I should be....well, you guessed it, this could just be one big baby! Let's just hope he gives his mom a break and decides to come a week or so early...especially since my doctor is off during the long Thanksgiving weekend - just my luck!
Next up was my blood draw, precisely one hour after I chugged the sugar-induced-coma beverage. Then on to see Dr. Smith. My nurse had me sign consent forms to authorize blood draw for the baby when it comes time for his circumcision, and consent forms for both a vaginal or c-section birth. Yikes! I had to make sure I wasn't signing my life away...but essentially they have you sign it now, before you're in labor, in pain, etc. I asked about my rhogam shot since they hadn't mentioned it and lo and behold...they forgot about it. Then she says, "Uh oh - I need another blood draw for that". Awesome. So, they poke me again in the same vein and it blew, so we had to go to the other arm. Now I look like a drug addicted pregnant lady! Next was a terribly painful shot in the rear for my RH negative blood...it still burns two hours later. And to top it all off, I got my first cervical exam. This was the most poked, prodded and violated I have felt since our very first appointment at just almost 6 weeks pregnant. Ha!
It's going to be an early bed time for me after this event filled day. Now I start appointments every 2 weeks, which surprised me because I thought that didn't start for another month. It's definitely the home stretch, and the reality is really starting to set it!
We didn't get too many good print outs today of Baby D, but here are the ones we did get. I love the 'thumbs up' shot. He is just melting my heart already! Saturday we are doing a 3D sonogram so hopefully we will get some of those crazy, detailed shots that I always see people have. Can't wait to see my beautiful boy again! Also posted is the short video we took today, you can really tell he's beginning to run out of room in there when you see his nice, long legs clear over his head. :)
Baby Boy's Profile
Hi Mom and Dad! I'm all good in here!
If you look very closely you can see his lips and up his nostrils on the upper left hand corner of the picture!
