Well, the official countdown to 2 is on and the party planning is in full swing! Birthday party date & time decided, invitations designed and done, and now the fun part - the food, drinks and decorating. This year we will have his party at home (again) - I just think he's not quite old enough to have a party anywhere else. Although, we did go to a party a couple weeks ago for one of his daycare girlfriends at a place called The Little Gym, and it was a blast! I was surprised how well thought out and planned these places are when it comes to toddler parties. The activities were short enough to hold their attention, age appropriate, and the kids had so much fun. Noted for next year! :)
This last month has proved to be quite a challenge, thanks to our darling Ronan. It's definitely been the most challenging yet, other than the brand new baby stage where you are trying to figure it all out! As my sister says, he is in the phase where his mind is more advanced than his mouth. He gets so frustrated because he can't quite express what he needs - so he just whines and cries instead. Endlessly at times. The mornings are quite interesting (note sarcasm). And some days all I can do is laugh to keep me from crying! It's a good thing he's so cute - otherwise, I might toss him out. Kidding, people. Kidding! I adore him every moment all the same.
One big change this last month is Ronan's ability to repeat pretty much anything. I mean, anything. It is time to watch your mouths around this babe, peeps! Because if you say it, so will he. It's beyond adorable most of the time - until you let out the occasional "ah, crap!" and I hear from the other room "Ahhh cap!". He has also learned that when I leave for work in the morning, that's when he should say "I love you" and give hugs and kisses. Most of the time, he tells me no when I ask for a hug and kiss. Unless it's when I'm leaving in the morning. In fact, this very morning he chased after me as I was headed out the door asking for an extra "hug! hug!". It made my day!
Along with this verbal explosion has come a few good things. Most of the time he will ask me for a diaper change if he needs/wants one. He can also ask for (almost) anything he wants or needs. Which is why we tell him to "use his words" when he starts whining. Sometimes he is so frustrated he won't stop, breathe and tell us what it is that he wants. Just the other morning it was getting so out of hand that I had him sit alone in order to catch his breath and told him not to get up until he calmed down. Amazingly, it worked!! Now, let's see if it works next time.
He now says two to the even occastional three words phrases. A few I can quickly name off the top of my head are: "watch Cars", "watch tv", "hungry Mommy", "diaper change", "outside cars" (meaning, let's take my tub of cars outside), "get out" (like out of the bath tub) and my favorite that he now seems to say more often than I would like; "go away". Hehe.
I made a couple awesome Craislist purchases this month. I got a bit overly excited when the awful Texas heat began lifting, and a slight hint of fall peeked through. Time to buy stuff for our new backyard! I found an awesome slide/fort and also a cute picnic table, so we have enjoyed evenings in our backyard almost every night as of late. Including breaking in our new chiminea! I've added a couple cute videos of Ro on his new toys and also some pictures from our last month of adventures. Enjoy!
