Merry Christmas, Happy New Year!

Merry (Belated) Christmas and New Year! We are winding down from successfully celebrating Ronan's 2nd Christmas and New Year's. It's hard to believe my little 1 year old is beginning to celebrate holidays for the 2nd time already! We really had a wonderful holiday, and despite this being the first holiday without my dad, I know we all have a lot to be grateful for in our lives.

We spent the first part of the holidays visiting Rob's family with a trip to OKC for the weekend. It was really nice to sit and relax for a couple days, not have to worry about running around, going to work, and just a break from our everyday stress and busy lives. Poor Ronan is in a stage where everything is a bit overwhelming, so he needed a good day to warm up to being somewhere other than his home and around a lot more people. But overall, he did great! And he loved all his presents and spending time with family.

Aren't my eyes gorgeous? Mommy still can't believe they're blue!

After a couple days out of state, we headed home to be with my family for Christmas. Christmas Eve was spent enjoying time at my mom's house, and I did the honors this year of cooking my dad's famous clam chowder and I must say - it turned out great! Just as good, if I do say so myself, as the chef himself. I think I would have done him proud with my "rendition" of the soup he's been making every Christmas Eve as long as I can remember. Luckily, I had the recipe written down! I had asked my dad a couple years ago how to make it and he verbally told me the basics....I ran to my computer and typed it out and emailed it to myself, and I am glad that I did! Everyone said I did such a good job, that I have managed to rope myself into being committed to make it every year. That's okay, I will take it! Luckily, I love to cook.

So cute in Christmas clothes

We took Ro back home Christmas Eve and put him to bed while we set up all his gifts for the next morning. Now this was the part I was really excited about, since obviously last year, at 3 weeks old, he had no interest in Christmas! Of course he still has no idea what it is, but he did have a great time opening gifts....and I LOVE seeing his mouth drop open when he sees new things. It's so adorable. We only got him a few special toys since he got so much for his birthday...this is the part I fear every year with having a December baby! So many presents and celebrations in such a short time, and then he has to wait the whole year to have it again. I'm beginning to understand how my brother felt being a 'Christmas' baby. Yikes!

I love our special stockings

WOW, Mom and Dad!!! Santa sure treated me well!

The gift we all knew he would love

Christmas morning we went back over to Mimi W's house to open a few more gifts, and had the awesome treat of getting some snow that day. Just amazing what Texas weather can do...thanks to that snow, I was able to go into work 2 hours late on the 26th! Ronan was not too sure about the snow, but I think he was mesmerized by it when he was in the comfort (read: warmness) of the indoors!

It's snowing!!

I don't know about this, Mom. It's cold!

Okay, now this is better!

After Christmas, Rob and I returned back to work for a few days before we were able to have another 4 day weekend! Well, mine turned into a 5 day weekend...but not the most ideal one, by any means. Ronan had a low grade temp on Christmas Eve and was a little fussy. But he's got a couple teeth coming in, so we gave him some Motrin, he was better, and we moved on. Fast forward 4 days later and the fever returned, and he just did not seem like himself. He was having a lot of trouble sleeping, and screaming when we put him down or in the middle of the night. A friend from my mom group privately messaged me when I talked about it on the board and said it sounded exactly like what happened with her son that same week...and he turned out to have an ear infection. Since Ronan had never had one, I wasn't sure what to look for, and he wasn't pulling at his ears which is the definite sign of one. But man am I glad I listened to her...I called in to work last Friday, called the doc, and got him in that morning. It took one quick peek in his ear for the doc to confirm - ear infection. Poor baby! His first "diagnosis" and prescription. It makes me so sad! And those first few days were AWFUL, for everyone involved. Poor Ronan did nothing but cry and fuss for days, and barely slept. Then today, he's finally feeling better, but Rob felt sick...so he went to see his doc, and bam! He has Influenza A - the "bad" strain, per the doc. Awesome. So, now I have two sick boys on my hands. Rob is banned from Ronan for a few days, and I'll be sleeping in Ro's room on the spare bed for the next couple nights. Mama CANNOT get sick. There is no option!

Luckily we did get to see my sister and her kiddos for New Year's more time before they headed back to California. We had to get that time in as much as possible since we see them only around 2 times a year. So sad to see them go!

Happy New Year from our little family!

Welp, that's the long and short of our holidays. Let's hope both my guys are feeling back to normal very soon!
