At first, I was very alarmed when the nurse measured him and I saw he had only grown a quarter inch in one whole month, especially considering he grew 1 1/2 inches from birth to one month old. But, the doctor reassured us he is fine. Ronan is actually following the "average" trend of growth perfectly and because trying to measure a squirmy baby on a table is not an exact science, she will just take his average growth over a full year. Phew! So, all is well. We won't have another checkup until 4 months at which time she said he should be smiling, and will be much more interactive with us. In fact, she said a baby's 4th month is when she would want to 'freeze' them. Her reasoning? They interact, smile, laugh, don't talk back or walk yet, and only drink milk. Ha! Writing this probably sounds like she is not a fan of children, but I promise she is and she's hilarious to boot!
Ronan was really fussy when we were visiting Dr. Hubbard (Dr. Sue as she always refers to herself in the third person). This is very unlike him; usually he is so laid back and agreeable, even while visiting the doctor. But man, not yesterday! And of course, the one time he is fussy, we forgot the most important essentials: a bottle of breast milk and/or my nipple shield for nursing (he will not latch without this). We've never forgotten these before, but yet the one time we need them? Brilliant! Our doc said "That's parenting! It's Murphy's Law". So, while Rob hopped in the car to go grab a bottle from the house, I sat and tried to soothe a screaming Ronan while Dr. Sue just talked away and went about her business. I know she's used to crying children, but I am not used to my baby crying so badly....it definitely stressed me out to see him so upset. I just wanted to help him! I tried nursing without the shield to no avail; he was already way too upset for that. He eventually wore himself out and was asleep in my arms by the time Rob returned. But, the bottle definitely came in handy at the last part of the appointment: the dreaded shots. Duh, duh, duh. He screamed - very loudly - but it was short lived and then he was just fine. Such a good boy! Poor little man was worn out; he slept nearly the entire day.
Today he is back to his usual sweet self, and we took some 2 month pictures. I've posted one along with his one month picture so you can see how he has changed! I shot a really cute video of him today playing and cooing away. Check back for the video later, I'm working on getting it uploaded to You Tube. :)
